The Coptic Church

The Building Blocks of Our Church

"In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord at its border. And it will be for a sign and for a witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the Lord because of the oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Mighty One, and He will deliver them." -Isaiah 19:19-20

The Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria is:

An Ancient Christian Church. It is one of the ancient churches in the world, it has been founded in the first century by Saint Mark the Apostle. The word ‘Coptic’ is driven from the Greek word ‘Aigyptos’ which means ‘Egypt’, and thus ‘Coptic’ merely means ‘Egyptian.’ The Coptic Church has carefully preserved the Orthodox Christian Faith in its earliest and purest form, handing it down from generation to generation, unaltered and true to the Apostolic doctrines and patterns of worship.

Apostolic: The Church was founded by Saint Mark the Apostle and Evangelist who preached to the Egyptians during the first century AD and he was considered the first Pope of Alexandria. Today, we have HH Pope Tawadros II the successor of St. Mark and the 118th Pope of Alexandria.

The belief of the Coptic Orthodox Church:

The belief of the church is the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed: (325 AD, 381 AD, 431 AD)

“We believe in one God, God the Father the Pantocrator who created heaven and earth, and all things seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten not created, of one essence with the Father, by whom all things were made; Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the Holy spirit and the Virgin Mary and became Man. And He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried. And on the third day He rose from the dead, according to the scriptures, ascended to the heavens; He sits at the right hand of his Father, and He is coming again in His glory to judge the living and the dead, Whose kingdom shall have no end.

Yes, we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Life-Giver, Who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And in one holy, catholic and apostolic church. We confess one baptism for the remission of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the coming age. Amen.”

Mysteries: The Church has seven primary Mysteries: Baptism, Chrismation, Confession, the Eucharist (Communion), Marriage, Priesthood, and the Unction of the Sick.

Coptic Orthodox Church Pillars of Faith:

Throughout the history, remarkable theologians monks and saints came out of the Coptic Orthodox Church, such as the pillars of faith: St. Athanasios the Apostolic, St. Cyril of Alexandria, and the founder of monasticism: St. Anthony, the Great.

More Than a Church

At the Heart of Silicon Valley

St. Andrew and St. Repsima Church opens her doors to the congregation and to the visitors to explore and to live the beauty and the authenticity of the Coptic Orthodox Church. We are looking for a location in Silicon Valley to house our liturgies and meetings. Until then, we join the congregation of St. George & St. Joseph Coptic Church on 395 W. Rincon Avenue, Campbell, CA 95008.

We will keep you posted with our progress in finding a location for our church. Pray for us.

“Then He said, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.” (Mark: 4: 30-32)
